Lago di Como is not far from Milan, it takes around 40 minutes to get there. As it was a day trip only, we had to wake up very early in the morning to make the most of the day.

Milan's train station is by far the most beautiful station we saw in all our trip. The detail of its roof and surrounding statues, makes it look a lot more like a touristic spot rather than a train station. We felt fancy just by being there.
Finding the apartment of our hosts in Milan was very easy. The couple lived fairly near the magnificent train station, and all we had to do was walk in a straight line. We got a break of looking for addresses for a change.

We arrived in Venice early in the afternoon. We had previously arranged with our Couchsurfing hosts that we would meet at the girl's workplace. This time, we had the opportunity to stay with a couple and as they had informed us earlier, they lived in one of the outside islands of Venice, called Lido. Since we had no idea how to get there, we thought the best option for us was to meet her earlier for some instructions so we wouldn't get lost as we always did.

It seems New Zealand is opening up to the world with their Working Holiday Visas, so it is very common to hear that more and more people are willing to go. And once they learned we had been there, we are always asked for some sort of advice/tips.

We stayed in Prato for 3 days, which is a very small town near Florence. Our experience in there was great, even though it was less to do and more to enjoy nature and the landscape. In Prato we also had our first experience with Couchsurfing. Our host lived outside of town, literally, in the mountains in an old farm. The view from up there was incredible, even though it took us around 25 minutes (by car) to arrive up there.

For our very special day we wanted something a bit unusual, so after some research, we decided to get married in Thailand. We had a lot of questions and concerns regarding the procedure of this, but at least, we thought that a wedding in Thailand would be way cheaper than some other places.

After buying a new pair of jeans at a Chinese store in Rome, we headed to Termini, where we would take the train to Florence. The train stations in Italy have helpful monitors for train information but, unfortunately, we couldn't say the same about the customer service office staff.
We got on the first long distance train we would take in Italy and 3 hours later, we were arriving at Florence.

When we started to plan our RTW trip we knew that, at some point, the expenses with accommodation would increase considerably in comparison to Asia. Therefore, we learned about two very useful websites, Couchsurfing and Airbnb.

We arrived to the airport in Rome around midday. Passing through customs was the easiest thing ever, no questions asked and directly to have our passport stamped.
We knew beforehand that Rome's downtown was far away from the airport and a quick search on internet told us that for 5 euros each we could catch a shuttle bus straight to Termini, main station in Rome. There were several options of shuttle buses, all lined up outside the airport, but we went for the bright pink bus, Terravision.
